Is Wishart Brisbane’s Best Suburb for Families?

Wishart Brisbane best suburb for families

At The Henry Wong Team® we’ve long believed Wishart is the best suburb for families in Brisbane. It has so much going for it when it comes to education, convenience, green space and community. The manner in which Wishart has gone from strength to strength over the years shows more and more people are starting to share our view!

In a recent article on realestate.com.au, real estate market commentator and buyer’s agent Pete Wargent, co-founder of BuyersBuyers, said:, “The Brisbane suburb of Wishart has become very popular for family buyers in the Sunshine State’s southeast corner.”

One of the main reasons for this is it sits in the zones of the sought after Mansfield State High School, which has an incredible reputation in Brisbane and around Queensland too. It’s also slightly more affordable than Mansfield, with a median house price of $1.11 million and a median unit price of $525,000, whilst still offering the same attractions.

There’s so much more to this suburb though that makes it an amazing option for families looking for a place to raise their kids. Today we’re going to look at what makes Wishart one of Brisbane’s best suburbs for families.

Wishart Schools and Education

As well as proudly sitting in the Mansfield State High Catchment Zone, residents will also enjoy being in the catchments for Wishart State School and Mansfield State School. There are a number of other exceptional schools in the area too, including Brisbane Adventist College, St Catherine’s Primary School and Citipointe Christian College

Families with school-going kids clearly have a range of options. After that, they also have University options nearby. The Nathan and Mt Gravatt Campuses of Griffith University are both within a few minutes’ drive, placing world leading academic institutions right on the doorstep of Wishart.

Location

Wishart sits about 15-kilometres from the centre of Brisbane, making it an easy commute for professional city workers. It also means the family friendly attractions of the CBD, such as museums, the Cultural Centre, Parklands and so on, are easily accessible.

Easy access to both the Pacific and Gateway motorways make road travel a breeze, and the airport is only 17-minutes away too. So air travel is also a breeze!

Being on the southside of Brisbane, you’re that much closer to the beaches and hinterland of the Gold Coast. In fact, in under an hour’s drive you can be in Surfers Paradise. Even closer in Helensvale are the world-renowned theme parks like Dreamworld, Movie World and Wet’n’Wild. which kids (and adults) will love!

Another location benefit families will enjoy is the close proximity to the Bayside suburbs. This makes it easy to explore the shores of Moreton Bay, while placing attractions like North Stradbroke Island an easy option for weekend outings.

Green Space

There are a multitude of parks in Wishart, offering up miles of open space and greenery for families to enjoy.

A popular favourite is definitely the Boorabin Picnic Ground, where if you’re a dog owner you’ll love the Dog Park and Agility area. You can also enjoy the picnic and barbeque area, lots of space to walk and a large carpark with wheelchair access.

Other parks that families speak highly of include Wishart Community Park, Berkshire Crescent Park and Delavan Street Park, whilst there are many more scattered throughout the suburb.

Shops, Restaurants and Amenities

Wishart is a really convenient suburb in terms of amenities, with residents able to enjoy two large Westfield shopping centres nearby. In only a couple of minutes’ drive you can be at Westfield Garden City, where there’s a wide range of boutique shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. There are larger stores too, from Woolworths to Myer and everything in between. There’s also an Event Cinemas showing all the latest movies.

If by any chance what you need can’t be found at Garden City, Westfield Carindale, which is a similar size and has similar retail and culinary offerings, is just a 10-mintue drive away.

There are other shopping centres within Wishart too, including Wishart Shopping Village, Civic Fair and Wishart Square. You’ll find most of the needs of your family are catered to in these centres, whether you’re looking for a dentist, a pharmacy or a hairdresser.

If you’ve ever considered living in Wishart, we’d strongly recommend coming and checking it out! There’s a great community feel, the suburb is well-kept and attractive and thousands of families happily call it home.
