In his stint on the Australian Entrepreneurs Club podcast (check them out here: https://www.instagram.com/ausentrepreneursclub/), Henry spoke on a wide range of topics around real estate and life in general.
Something that has been instrumental in the success of Henry and his team is networking. In the fast-paced and dynamic world of real estate, the importance of networking cannot be overstated. Networking is all about building relationships, and relationships are the foundation of success in the real estate industry.
When it comes to gaining referrals in real estate, networking supersedes everything else because it’s built on trust. And a trusted referral is a strong referral! Here’s a clip from the podcast:
The Power of Word of Mouth Referrals
As humans, we always go to our friends and family first when looking for a referral. In real estate, we’re dealing with massive investments people have made – usually the biggest investment in their lives. Trust is paramount here, and people selling a home will always want to use a real estate agent who has been referred by a friend or family member. Why? Because the referral is coming from a trusted source.
In this way, real estate agents with a large network are able to cut through the clutter. They are able to position themselves as a trusted expert, rather than a commodity. That’s a very strong place to be!
Building a Network for Referrals
As a real estate agent, networking expands your reach and builds relationships with potential clients, investors, and other industry professionals. But how do you go about building a network of trusted individuals? How do you get that steady stream of referrals to take your business to the next level?
Here are some suggestions from Henry. These are applicable in all industries, not just real estate!
Attend Relevant Events
One of the best ways to build your network is by attending industry events such as conferences, seminars, and networking events. These events provide an opportunity to meet new people and build relationships. Henry is a member of South Brisbane Chapter of Bx Networking, and cannot recommend this highly enough as a networking model!
Be Strategic
It is important to be strategic when building your network. Identify your target audience and focus on building relationships with individuals who can add value to your career or business. This means connecting with other real estate professionals, potential clients, and investors. Be strategic in your approach and focus on building genuine relationships.
Be Genuine
Networking is not about superficial connections; it’s about building authentic relationships based on trust, mutual respect, and shared interests. Be genuine in your interactions and show a sincere interest in others. This means taking the time to get to know the person you are talking to and finding common ground.
Be Generous
Networking is not just about taking; it’s also about giving. Be generous in sharing your knowledge, insights, and resources with others, and be willing to help without expecting anything in return. This giver approach can help you build strong relationships based on trust and reciprocity.
Be Prepared
Before attending any networking event, research the attendees, have your elevator pitch ready, and carry ample business cards or any other relevant marketing materials. Be prepared to share your expertise and engage in meaningful conversations.
Utilize Social Media
In today’s digital world, online networking is just as crucial as offline networking. Utilize social media platforms, such as LinkedIn and Facebook, to connect with industry professionals, join relevant groups, and share valuable content. Engage in discussions, comment on posts, and establish your online presence. Henry’s highly engaged Facebook following is 12,000 people large, and is essential in his listings gaining traction online.
Follow Up
Networking doesn’t end after the event. Follow up with the contacts you have made, and send personalized messages. Nurture the relationships and keep in touch regularly. Provide value whenever possible, and remember to thank the person who provided you with a referral.
