Sitting in the inner south of Brisbane’s suburbs, Coorparoo offers an exceptional lifestyle built around a tight-knit community.
When many people think of Coorparoo, ‘convenience’ is the first word that pops to mind. It’s less than six kilometers drive to the heart of Brisbane, with a huge range of public transport options to help get you there. Whether you’re driving, going by train or bus or even riding your bike, the electric buzz of Central Brisbane is easily accessible!
Coorparoo hasn’t built its reputation as a lifestyle suburb simply because of its proximity to the city centre. A lot is going on within the suburb that families, young professionals or retirees will love. As Coorparoo real estate agents, we want to tell you about some of it today!
We’re a sucker for a good park here at The Henry Wong Team®, so let’s start with taking a look at some of the incredible parks in Coorparoo. These help promote an active and outdoors lifestyle in the suburb, which residents love.
This is a central and easily accessible park that’s always a hit with the kiddos, thanks to its awesome playground. I mean, there’s even a dragon there with huge dragon eggs, and a massive fort too! There’s also an electric barbeque, a picnic shelter and an entire outdoor fitness circuit! A great place to come and hang out with the kids on the weekends.
As the kids get older the idea of a fort and dragon playground may not appeal as much. That’s ok – the skate park at The Common Park in Coorparoo should attract their interest! This sprawling park offers over 7 hectares of greenspace, and as well as the skate park there is a designated drone launching area! You can also enjoy a basketball half-court, an outdoor fitness trail, a picnic area and a barbeque area.
Popular with dog owners because of its dog off-leash area, Wembley Park is the perfect spot to bring your pooch to catch up with its other furry friends. It’s also got a bikeway network through it, which cyclists love. There’s a large car park here which makes it easier to visit, and kids and adults alike will love the playground and the cricket practice nets.
Those are by far our three favourite Coorparoo Parks, although you will find many more dotted around the suburb, including Sirius Street Park, Trundle Park and Kanumbra Street Park. There’s bound to be a park near you in Coorparoo!
Tied in with the outdoor culture here is the wide range of activities you’ll find on any given day in the suburb. We love supporting local in Coorparoo, so here are a few things Henry Wong and his team enjoy, and you will too:
Everybody loves a market, right? Well if you live in Coorparoo you won’t have to travel far to get your monthly market fix! On the third Sunday of every month the CavRoad Community Markets are held…. There are free activities for the kids, and a whole range of stalls to browse. Everything from delicious pastries to coffees, gin tasting and fresh farm produce is available here!
If street food is your thing, you’ll love the concept of Friday Night Bites, held every Friday at the Coorparoo Senior AFC. This is an absolute treat for your tastebuds, with a huge variety of delicious meals available, from classic American burgers to gourmet pies. And if craft beer is your thing, well, you’re in luck at Friday Night Bites! There’s also a free jumping castle for the kids, plenty of parking and some funky live music for you to enjoy.
We’ve already mentioned the skate park at Common Park, which is an ideal hangout spot for kids of most ages. Here’s the thing, if you keep your eyes and ears open, Southeast Queensland Skateboard Coaching gives free skating lessons at the park. It’s open to kids up to 17 years ol, and bookings are essential. Who knows, you could have the next Tony Hawk on your hands!
The lush surrounds of Majestic Park play host to a couple of fitness classes every weekend that are free to attend. Every Saturday at 1.30pm the ACTivate Kids Club takes place, a free fun fitness event for kids aged 6-10 years old. Expect games, races and obstacle courses! Then on Sundays at 7.30am is Mobility for Life, an all ages class taking you through some stretching and mobility exercises. What a rejuvenating way to finish the week!
Nothing beats an outing to the cinema to catch the latest flick. Dendy is an independent theatre in Coorparoo showing the latest hits as well as a diverse range of arthouse films. It’s a state of the art entertainment venue right on your doorstep!
