Just nine kilometres south-east of Brisbane’s CBD, Holland Park has that sweet mix of quiet streets and easy city access. Masses of green space, family-friendly appeal and a well-connected infrastructure has seen this suburb go from strength to strength over the last few years. It’s showing no signs of slowing down either, and why should it? This is a great place to live or invest!
Whether you’re raising kids, working from home or just want more space without giving up location, Holland Park is a great choice. It’s a tightly held suburb – people end up living here for many years because it’s so comfortable and convenient. When houses come onto the market, the competition is always fierce.
Today I want to talk about ten reasons why this is the case. Let’s take a look at the ten best things about living in Holland Park.
1. The Location
You simply can’t beat this location if you’re looking for proximity to the city, nicely blended with peaceful suburban living. The Pacific Motorway is very accessible – a 12-minute drive and you can be on Edward Street in the heart of the CBD. You can also head south and be on the Gold Coast in under an hour. The Bay-side suburbs are within easy reach too, with the nearby Gateway Motorway provides an easy run to the northern suburbs and the Sunshine Coast.
2. Family-Friendly Vibes
An established inner-city suburb, Holland Park has wide and tree-lined streets like Glindemann Drive and Victor Street that provide a peaceful and leafy ambience. There are large gardens where kids can safely play, and an array of parks where you can walk the dogs or kick the footy. This suburb has those old-school community vibes that are hard to find in newer and less established suburbs further from the city.
3. Great Schools and Education
The Holland Park Schools are a massive drawcard here, attracting families looking for quality education at both a private and a state level. Holland Park State School, Marshall Road State School, Cavendish Road State High and St Joachim’s Primary all have excellent reputations. There are also multiple childcare centres nearby and private schools in Coorparoo and Mt Gravatt an easy drive away. The Nathan Campus of Griffith University is also within easy reach.
4. Local Delights: Cafés, Restaurants and Takeaways
You’re never far from somewhere to put your feet up and enjoy a good coffee or decent meal in Holland Park. Stomp Espresso, The Rare Pear, Deedot Coffee House – you’re spoiled for choice. There are also bakeries, takeaways and small specialty stores at different locations in the suburb – plenty of options if you don’t feeling like staying in and cooking.
5. Green Space
You’ll never be short on outdoor space if you live in Holland Park – wherever you live in the suburb there will be a park nearby. Glindemann Park, C.B. Mott Park and Whites Hill Reserve are especially popular amongst locals, providing space to exercise, relax and get some fresh air. Whites Hill has walking trails, sports fields and picnic spots surrounded by bushland – a nice break from the city noise without having to travel far.
6. Public Transport
If you don’t drive, there are strong public transport links here, with a good bus network taking you to the city and all around Brisbane. The Holland Park SE Busway station provides a direct link to the CBD and is heavily used by city commuters. Taxis and Ubers are in abundance, and if you’re catching a flight anywhere the airport is a short 22-minute drive away.
7. Diverse housing and character homes
The diverse range of housing in Holland Park provides it with a unique character that is quintessentially Brisbane. From Queenslander-style homes to architect-designed builds and modern developments, there’s a nice mix that gives personality to the area while also providing a range of options for home buyers. If you’re a first home buyer or someone upgrading their family home, you’ll find the answer in Holland Park.
8. Friendly Community
This is a friendly and down-to-earth place to live where the community looks out for one another. There are popup markets, the schools run fetes and there’s always something going on when it comes to the weekend. The Holland Park Sports Club is a nice centre for people to come together – it’s a bowls club run by the community and serving the suburb for over 80 years.
9. Strong Property Growth
Over the last five years, the Holland Park house median has risen from $826,000 to $1,447,500. That’s some significant growth, and it’s still heading up, with the last 12 months providing 5.3% of growth. Surrounding suburbs have followed the same trend, proving that if you’re a long-term owner or investor this is a safe market for you to buy in. There are no anomalies here.
10. Two Westfield Shopping Centres
Who doesn’t love a sprawling shopping mall where you can find everything you need? In Holland Park, you’re close to two of the biggest in Brisbane’s south: Westfield Carindale (8 minutes’ drive) and Westfield Garden City (10 minutes’ drive). Each one offers boutique shopping, cinemas, amenities, restaurants and entertainment – they make living easy! The only question is, which one will you visit today?
